Finding My Passion In Rescue
There are a few things in life that I am truly passionate about. Animals are at the top of that list. As I get older I find myself wanting to become more involved and do more for the animals that I care so much about. I see so many that need our help to survive every day. There is only so much I can do on my own and I really wanted to make a greater contribution. This cookie bakery is a way for me to give back. There are no profits being made as everything is sent to the rescues as a donation. I have four rescue dogs of my own. Each has their own story of how they stole my heart. I know the answer isn't to adopt them all, but sometimes it's hard to resist!
Soi Dog Foundation is very dear to my heart. I discovered this great organization while traveling in Thailand. Many people have no idea that there is a horrific Dog Meat Trade occurring between Vietnam and Thailand. These dogs are stolen or pets sold by owners who are desperate to feed themselves for small change. They are cruely captured, shoved into tiny crates with hundreds to a truck. They are transported illegally over the border to Vietnam where they are beaten and skinned alive. The belief is that the more the dog suffers at death the more tender the meat will be! Each dog only generates a profit of around $20. I have two dogs that came from Soi Dog as rescues from Dog Meat trucks. Every day I am so grateful I was able to save them.
My mission has become to raise awareness of the dog meat trade so we can end this once and for all. Please visit http://www.soidog.org/en/you-can-help-stop-the-dog-meat-trade/ to see what they have done for the dogs and cats of Thailand. The younger generation will not stand for this barbaric tradition and great strides are being made every day to help these dogs. More arrests have been made in the past two years than in the history of the Dog Meat Trade!
The funds raised go directly to Soi Dog to transport these dogs to loving homes. My goal is to save one a month! If you are interested in adopting a Soi Dog but don't have the means to pay for the flight please send me a message about why you want to adopt and I will put you on the list for assistance. Every home we find is another spot open for Soi Dog to rescue a deserving dog.
